Odry is the first town upstream one of the most important European rivers, the source of which is not far from here. It is situated inside the beautiful basin of the Odra, which is surrounded by the forested hills and valleys of the Nízký Jeseník mountains. The valley opens into the main Moravian valley Moravská brána, which connects the south and north parts of Moravia. This was the ancient Amber Way. There are 5.500 inhabitants in Odry and more then 2.000 people live in the surrounding villages Dobešov, Kaménka, Klokočůvek, Loučky, Pohoř, Tošovice, Veselí and Vítovka.
Plní funkci základního stupně územní samosprávy a v různé míře je také vykonavatelem státní správy.
